Osaka：Kuromon Market Travel

Kuromon Market is a popular spot in Osaka’s Minami area (Namba/Nipponbashi), known as "Osaka’s Kitchen" or "Naniwa’s Kitchen." It is a lively and energetic market filled with vibrant atmosphere.🐟🍖🍡

The market consists of an arcade street approximately 580 meters long, lined with about 150–160 shops. Because it is covered by an arcade, you can enjoy shopping and eating regardless of the weather.

Its origins date back to the late Edo period, when fresh fish trading began in front of the black gate of Enmyoji Temple.

It became an officially recognized market during the Meiji era. Centered around fresh seafood, meat, and vegetables, the market also offers a wide variety of prepared foods, sweets, and clothing. It is bustling every day with both locals and tourists.

In recent years, more shops cater specifically to international visitors, with many offering menus in foreign languages. There has also been an increase in stores that grill fresh, large shrimp, crab, oysters, and meats right in front of you.

Japan is home to an incredibly diverse range of fish species. Over 4,800 kinds of fish have been recorded in Japanese waters alone.

Hundreds of these are commonly enjoyed as food and are eaten daily in forms such as sushi, sashimi, simmered dishes, and grilled preparations. Japanese fish generally have very little fishy odor, so please feel free to give them a try!

At the fresh fish shops in a traditional market like this, you can find premium shellfish used for sushi and other seafood that are rarely seen elsewhere. There are also high-end fruits available, so be sure to try the exceptionally sweet, high-sugar-content fruits at least once.

Access: About a 5–10 minute walk from Namba Station. Just a short walk from Exit 10 of Nipponbashi Station on the Osaka Metro Sakaisuji Line and Sennichimae Line.
