It's about a 5-minute walk from the East Exit of Kintetsu Kyoto Line "Ogura Station," or an 8-minute walk from the North Exit of JR Nara Line "Ogura Station."

From Kyoto Station, it's roughly 30 minutes by train.

[How to Buy Tickets for Nintendo Museum]

Tickets are completely advance reservation only. You can apply for the lottery starting 3 months before your desired visit date (up to 3 date preferences).

Create a free Nintendo Account on the official site and apply there. I applied twice and finally won!

Once selected, pay the fee and you'll get a QR ticket issued.

[How to Enter Nintendo Museum]

At the entrance, show your QR ticket and ID to receive your admission/play ticket. (The ID check is probably to prevent ticket reselling.) If you have lots of luggage, use the coin lockers to go hands-free. Lines start forming about 15 minutes before opening, so arriving early makes your whole experience smoother.

The staff at the entrance were super friendly and helpful—it really put me at ease.

There's a security check at the entrance. As of March 2026, prohibited items include tripods, dangerous objects (knives, flammables), drones/remote-controlled toys, bento boxes/meals, canned or bottled drinks (in cans/bottles), and large luggage like suitcases. Plastic bottle drinks are OK to bring in.

[How to Enjoy Nintendo Museum]

At the entrance, scan your QR ticket to get your play ticket. Each play ticket comes loaded with 10 digital coins per person—these let you enjoy the interactive zones!

Play classic Mario games on a super-sized controller, try arcade-style versions of old games, and more.

Each exhibit/experience uses a different number of coins.

Important: You can't buy extra coins, so use them wisely!

The sections with game development stories and history are truly moving and impressive.

[Nintendo Museum Café & Shop]

Right before the exit in the indoor museum, the shop has tons of limited-edition items—like giant controller cushions, Yoshi egg plushies, and more. You could spend hours browsing!

Nearby, after exiting the indoor area, there's a café where you can order original burgers (customizable and super fun!).

The life-size Mario world is so charming! Take photos with the giant ? Blocks, green Warp Pipes, and other iconic elements—perfect for that classic Mario vibe.
